Graphic Designer + Landscape Architect
Graphic designer, trained and licensed as a landscape architect. Also: copywriter, illustrator, garden adviser, tree pruner, teacher & marketing wiseacre.
My creative work is largely about designing and managing spaces—visual (graphic) and physical (landscape). Sometimes it is about confronting ignorance, neglect, or abuse of spaces and environments. Sometimes it's about helping them heal.
My family encouraged my curiosity about architecture, various arts, and the outdoors. I spent much of my childhood exploring my Illinois hometown's sprawling parks and green spaces, not to mention epic family trips to state parks, national parks and beyond.
I was also fascinated by drawings, lettering, language, the magic of printing and graphic arts. Whether on the land or on paper, the spaces were there to wander and study.
That led to a landscape architecture degree from Iowa State University, and subsequent move to the Seattle area, working for a variety of design and planning firms, and retail plant nurseries, while maintaining my freelance business. And all along the way—exploring, learning, creating, serving.
